Welsh Blood Service game cancelled (5th August 2009)

Unsurprisingly our home ground at Central Park resembles a quagmire at the moment and even if it was dry all day today the pitch would not dry sufficiently to allow us to play this evening.  So unfortunately this evenings game against the Welsh Blood Services has been cancelled for the second time and will probably now not be played.  We are hopeful that the forecast for the rest of the week holds and we can play some cricket on Sunday as scheduled away at Tonyrefail and Edmonstown Cricket Club.  This match will take place at their home ground of Tyn-Y-Bryn Park.  This is scheduled as a 40 over game.  Please meet at Llantwit Fardre Sports Club car park at 12.30pm prompt so we can travel up in convoy.  Any issues with your availability please contact Gareth Ball in the usual way.

Cup final confirmed (3rd August 2009)

It has been confirmed today that we will be playing in the inaugural South Wales Full Toss Cup Final on Monday 17th August at Llanrumney playing fields.   After our tense cup win against Glenwood our Semi Final opponents were due to be the Welsh Assembly Government.  However, WAG decided to honour a previously arranged fixture, the result of which was a bye for us to the final.

Our opponents have been confirmed as league leaders (and probable victors) The Highway Hurricanes who will provide us with a stern test of our ambitions to end this season with a trophy.

Two teams named and a re-arranged game (3rd August 2009)

Last weeks league game versus Welsh Blood Service whcih was cancelled due to the rain has been re-arranged for this Wednesday (5th August) in place of a previously arranged friendly against Llantwit Fardre.  This is in line with our strategy to commit to and complete as many competitive fixtures as possible during the season.  We would like to thank Llantwit Fardre CC (our tenants) for their understanding.  A revised fixture list can be found here.  The team for Wednesdays fixture (in no particular order) reads:

Richard Lewis (Captain)
Gareth Ball (Wicket)
Nick Howard
Andrew Hibberd
Alex Coombs

Welsh Blood Service match a wash out (29th July 2009)

It will come as no suprise to anybody that tonights game against the Welsh Blood Service is wash out due to the heavy rain over the last few days.  Hopefully we will have some sign of clear weather soon as the season for the third year in a row is being lost to the lovely British Summer time!

Change to match reports on this site (27th July 2009)

There has been a change to match reports on this site which will make it easier to keep the reports in an easily acessible and chronological way.  Match reports will no longer be stored in the News Archive for this season onwards.  Match reports will now appear on the word document that includes the scorecard for the game.  These can be linked to from the Fixtures and Results page and then click on to the relevant year, such as Fixtures and Results 2009.  Next to a concluded game you will see a summary of the score in the last column on the right and underneath a link to a "Full Report".  Click on this and it will then open a 3 page word document which includes scorecards and the match report at the end.  To see an example from our cup win over Glenwood earlier this season please click here.  Further changes to this site will be announced on an ongoing basis there is an ongoing project to update all games from previous seasons with scorecards and match reports where available in the same consistent way as above and also a project to add previous/completed season averages to player profiles to paint a "career" picture for each player.

Two league fixtures scheduled (19th June 2009)

As we continue to try and rebuild our fixture list with the goal of getting as many league games in this season two of our cancelled fixtures have now been scheduled.

The cancelled league game against Welsh Assembly Government previously on 6th May has now been rescheduled for Wednesday 15th July replacing a friendly against Cardiff Bay Barbarians.   As has previously been announced the cancelled league game against Highway Hurricanes previously on 13th May has been scheduled for Tuesday 30th June, replacing a friendly against the same opposition. We have also managed to arrange our league fixture against the leagues new arrivals, the Sportsmans Rest; this will be played on Wednesday 26th August and replaced a previous friendly against the South Wales Echo.

There are now two cancelled league fixtures remaining to reschedule (Mackintosh Church and Welsh Blood Service) which we are looking to reschedule as in line with the strategy to play as many league games as possible.  With the previous announcement of two new one day games we have gone some way to rebuilding our fixture list of late for this season  For a fully updated fixture list please click here.

Two new fixtures with new opposition announced (10th June 2009)

After a recent influx of cancellations two new fixtures have been announced against new opposition.  We would like to thank Tonyrefail and Edmunstown Cricket Club for agreeing to these two fixtures and indeed contacting us with the proposition of some fixtures.  The games will both be forty over affairs and are scheduled for Sunday 9th August away at Tyn-Y-Bryn Park and the return on Sunday 23rd August at Central Park.  For a full and update fixture list please click here.  For more information on our new oposition and directions to their ground (and any other of our opposition and away grounds for that matter) please got to the links section.  We are still working tenaciously to re-arrange the league games with WAG, Mackintosh Church and also to arrange our additional fixture against the Sportsmans Rest, watch this space!

It has been an extremely difficult task to select this side and there will be an element of rotation to our selection in league games. However, with friendly fixtures there will be plenty of opportunities for all to play a role and impress, there are over 20 games to play this year. It is a squad and not a team game and people who are not in the starting eleven in any given fixture are as important as those playing.

If there any issues please get in contact with Gareth Ball in the usual way.

Series of One Day games announced (3rd March 2009)

The ever evolving fixture list for 2009 currently includes no fewer than four one day 40 over games.  With the club facing two new oppositions in Dinas Powys and Senghenydd Cricket Club's whilst also again playing Caerleon, who we faced for the first time last season.   The current schedule for these 40 over contests is below:

Sunday 31st May Senghennydd Away

Sunday 14th June Caerleon Away

Saturday 25th July Dinas Powys Away

Sunday 16th July Senghennydd Home

This is another exciting development in the fixture itinery of the club and comes on the back of the recent news regarding our membership of a newly formed midweek league.  We are also hopeful of a tour including a game sometime during the season.  Click here to see the fixture list as it currently stands.  Should you have any queries please contact Gareth Ball in the usual way.

New League announced (24th February 2009)

Negotiations have been ongoing between the committee and the organisers of a new midweek Cricket League in the South Wales/Cardiff area.   The league is to be run by Cardiff Bay Barbarians and the Highway Hurricanes and will also incorporate a Cup competition.   This will result in 7 league fixtures and a possible 3 cup fixture if the final is reached.

Our committee would like to thank those who have worked diligently to set up this new league for their hard work and commitment and for our inclusion within.  As you know it has been our goal for sometime (after our failed application to the Willows League last season) to involve the club within a structured league and it looks like that goal has been achieved.

As a result of this our fixture list for the season is taking shape rapidly.  There will still be the opportunity to play friendly games and we have already arranged one 40 over friendly against new opponents fro the club in Dinas Powys and are also looking at arranging another with Caerleon (who we played last year) fixture added to this is the prospect of a possible tour game. To see our fixture list as it currently stands please click here.

The rules for the league that we are to participate in are not yet finalised but a proposed draft can be found here. If you have any queries please contact Gareth Ball in the usual way.

Date for AGM 2009 announced (16th January 2009)

The date of the AGM has been set as Friday 27th March 6.30 for a 7pm start. Venue is as usual our sponsors Raffles, if you know anyone interested in playing please bring them along to the AGM or one of our pre season net sessions.

Neil Shearer and Matthew Phillips are stepping down from their positions on the committee as Social Secretary and Captain respectively.  The club would like to thank both for their sterling work over the past two seasons in post.

Any member of the team is therefore duly invited to stand for election to either of these roles. Please send your nomination directly to Gareth Ball, either via email to secretary@glamorgancenturions.co.uk or to his personal e-mail, verbal nominations can not be counted, please remember that your nomination must be seconded, the person seconding must confirm this via email as well. Verbal seconding will also not be accepted.  Both retiring officers would be happy to discuss the roles with anyone considering standing should they want to do so.
