AGM held 19th March (23rd March 2010)

The club AGM for 2010 was held at our sponsors Barini's Lounge & Cafe Bar on Friday evening 19th March.  A decent turn out ran through the agenda and heard updates from 2009 Officers Neil Shearer (Captain), Gareth Ball (Secretary), Andrew Hibberd (Treasurer) and Nick Howard (Social Secretary).  Reports were also given on the teams current healthy sponsorship position.

The election of Officers for 2010 saw no challenges to the existing postholders; so Gareth Ball (Secretary), Andrew Hibberd (Treasurer) and Nick Howard (Social Secretary) all retained their positions for 2010.   The election of Captain also saw Neil Shearer retain the position unchallenged.  There was however two candidiates for the role of Vice Captain.  With last seasons postholder Richard Lewis giving way to Matthew Ball for 2010 season after a vote.  We all thank Rich for his efforts during 2009.

Match fees remain unchanged at £3 a week and updates were given on training, insurance, new shirts, tour, game formats, kit bag distribution also some amendments to the club constitution were passed.   All in all we reflected on a successful year of progression while looking forward hugely to the 2010 season.  All members should have received minutes from the meeting, if you have not please contact Gareth Ball.

AGM change of venue (4th March 2010)

The venue for our AGM will now be our new sponsors Barini's Lounge & Cafe Bar.  The date and time remain unchanged as Friday 19th March 7pm for 7.30pm start.

AGM details finalised (22nd February 2010)

The date for the clubs 2010 Annual General Meeting is Friday 19th March 7pm for 7.30pm start. The venue has been confirmed as the Otley Arms, Treforest.

New players are more than welcome, please invite any interested parties along prior to pre season nets to get to know the set up and our players.

Nominations are open for those wishing to stand as officers (Secretary, Treasurer, Social Secretary and Captain) and for the non commitee role of Vice Captain.  Closing date for nominations is 12th March 2010 and all nominations are to be sent to Gareth Ball.

End of season presentation night (25th November 2009)

The clubs annual swaray to Raffles took place on Friday 23rd October. This was the first to be hosted by our esteemed new Social Secretary Nick Howard QC.  The evening was a success with many a beer drunk, many a joke told, many a put down given and a much food eaten by all.

Awards on the night were given to all present!  However the more serious awards were given too:

Player of the year: Richard Lewis (voted for by the players)

Clubman of the year: Gareth Ball (voted for by the players)

Batsman of the year: Richard Lewis

Bowler of the year: Matthew Ball

These awards enter our hall of fame.  Photos from the night can be found here.

Twenty 20 social arrangements (21st May 2009)

As we have no game on Wednesday 27th May, an outing to see Glamorgan Dragons play a 20/20 game at home to the Gloucestershire Gladiators starting at 7pm was too good to miss.  Arrangements for this have now been finalised as per below:

First wave – 4.00pm, meet in the Prince of Wales pub, Cardiff (for those who’ve never had the pleasure, it’s the big Wetherspoons pub on the corner of St Mary St and Wood St by the traffic lights – just come out of Central Station and turn right)

Second Wave - 6.15pm, meet in the Mochyn Du pub, which is on the left as you turn into the car park at Swalec Stadium.

Any queries please contact Social Secretary Nick Howard either by e-mail or by mobile number he has provided to those attending.

Twenty 20 event planned (21st April 2009)

As we have no game on Wednesday 27th May, we have an opportunity to go and see how the pro’s tackle 20/20 cricket. Glamorgan Dragons are at home to the Gloucestershire Gladiators at 7pm, and tickets are available now at £10 each. Not bad for a chance to sup a few beers with team mates, take in the new SWALEC stadium...and see 40 overs (hopefully) of top quality cricket.

Please let our new Social Secretary Nick Howard know if you (and any guests) want to go (nhoward@glam.ac.uk) and bring your £10 to nets next Wednesday 29th April at Sophia Gardens.

AGM Social Evening (26th January 2009)

The AGM scheduled for Friday 27th March will also double up as a pre season social evening for the team to get together before we commence our pre season training schedule. It represents the final act of our current Social Secretary and it is proposed we embark on a pre season get together to discuss the new season (ahem) and re acquaint ourselves to our team mates.  This will follow on from the AGM and will move on to wherever the road may take us! The starting venue for the AGM is confirmed as our sponsors Raffles 6.30pm for a 7pm start.

Presentation night goes with a bang (21st September 2008)

Thursday 29th August saw the annual presentation night take place at our sponsors Raffles Bar in Treforest.  The club kindly donated a generous amount to the beer fund and a fine array of food was delivered by our hosts.  The evening started with the annual awards being given as:

Bowler of the year: Matthew Phillips (second year in succession)

Batsman of the year: Richard Lewis

Clubman of the year: Gareth Ball

Player of the year: Richard Lewis (second year in succession)

Congratulations go to all the worthy award winners and all team members who took part in the season who received their individual “awards” on the evening.   Matthew Phillips also announced his resignation as Captain after an excellent two year spell and was presented with a commemorative tankard.

The party moved on to Cardiff where late into the evening a bizarre display of dancing was given by Nick Howard and Richard Lewis.  A rain sodden season ended in an upbeat manner and photos from the evening can be found here.

Twenty / Twenty social event names needed (14th May 2008)

If tickets are booked soon they can be obtained at a discounted rate of  £11 (usually £15). So can you all please advise by the end of this week (Friday 16th May) at the very latest if you are definitely coming. Tickets can then be ordered and payments collected at next weeks game as far as possible.

Can members please advise
Neil Shearer if you want to come (and you must be certain, if you commit you must pay) and by e-mailing social@glamorgancenturions.co.uk or replying to the e-mail sent to members.

Twenty/Twenty social event planned (2nd May 2008)

Last season we ran a trip to watch a Pro40 game at Sophia Gardens, now of course the newly refurbed SWALEC Stadium.
This season we are looking to organise a trip to a 20/20. We don’t yet know details but we do need to establish numbers and also which game we want to go to.

Looking at the fixture list for 20/20 games (http://www.glamorgancricket.com/fixtures_1st_team.php) we have narrowed it down to the games below:

1) Friday 13th June Somerset in a floodlit game
2) Sunday 15th June Worcestershire
3) Friday 20th June Northamptonshire in a floodlit game (bearing in mind we also have a training/social lined up for Saturday 21st June)

Can members please advise
Neil Shearer if you want to come (please be close to certain) and what your preferred game would be by e-mailing social@glamorgancenturions.co.uk or nshearer@glam.ac.uk.

Pre Season Tour 2008 Cancelled (11th April 2008)

Unfortunately the proposed pre season tour has had to be cancelled as there was a lack of numbers due to short notice.  We will look to organise a tour either at the end of this or the beginnning of next season with appropriate notice so members can book into their diaries.  Apologies to all those who did express their interest.

Pre Season Tour 2008 (26th March 2008)

As reported from the AGM we are trying to organise a tour game to Tenby to play some team who's name escapes me! The ground we will be playing at is apparently somewhere Glamorgan have played (or so Rich Lewis tells me but I have lost his e-mail).

Anyway, aside from the complete lack of details above we do know it will involve a 40 over game, this game will be on either Saturday 26th or Sunday 27th April and we will be looking to book in a hotel/B&B for the night of Saturday 26th April.

We propose to travel down by car (volunteer drivers needed) as mini buses require a special licences (so I am told). This note is basically to see how our numbers are looking, the details as to when we are playing and the exact identity of our opposition can be sorted out later :-)

We will look to keep costs to a minimum and are basically aiming at something between £40-£60 a night type hotel and contributions too petrol plus your beer money (which for some like
Pete Davies may run into the thousands!) This will be an excellent opener to the season for us and an opportunity for some cricket and some socialising all in one.

So can you please let me know if you are interested in coming along. As this is going to involve considerable organising can you please only reply in the affirmative if you are a definite to travel.
Gareth Ball, Richard Lewis and Neil Shearer (the committee for organising this debacle) can then get together and plan the details. Please contact Neil Shearer on social@glamorgancenturions.co.uk and we look forward to hearing from you all soon with a positive response.

Xmas bash

Our christmas bash took place on Wednesday 19th December with Neil Shearer, Gareth Ball, Martyn Judd, Ian Mansell, Andrew Hibberd and Pete Davies being the jolly souls that took part.  We started at Raffles bar in Treforest and moved on to the University's staff party until far too late!  Pictures can be found here.

End Of Season Presentation Night

The end of season presentation night was held at Raffles bar in Treforest on Friday 31st August 2007.  An excellent night was had by all.  The formal awards for the 2007 were as follows:

Batsman of the Year: Gareth Ball
Bowler of the Year: Matthew Phillips

Player of the Year: Rich Lewis

Clubman of the Year: Neil Shearer

Numerous "unofficial" awards were also dished out on the night much to the amusement of those present, but they shant be listed here!  Thanks to all who came and here's to next season!

Pro 40 Night Out

Your committe has been looking into ways of enhancing the social aspect of our team. We have kindly been given by Glamorgan CC a very healthy reduction for a seating area in their new pavilion stand for the Pro 40 Match on Friday September 7th against Kent at Sophia Gardens.

The Pavilion Stand is Glamorgan CC new self described ‘jewel in the crown’. To see it for yourself click
here. The stand will be where GCC premier members will be housed. It is also where boxes will be and half of the stand will play host to the business club. The standard of seating in this area is far superior to that around the rest of the ground. These seats are extra wide and deep padded for your comfort. They are close to the bars and offer an excellent view of the ground – square of the wicket.

We have been able to negotiate these pavilion seats for our party at the standard Pro40 charge of £15 a head, same as if you were in a standard seating.

Of course after the game we can all go onto any venues we may decide to frequent in the lively City of Cardiff!  Can you let me know if you are interested ASAP.

Confirmed Attendees are: Neil Shearer, Gareth Ball, Ian Mansell, Richard Lewis, Jonathan Bluett, Alex Coombes, Martyn Judd, Andrew Hibberd, Matthew Ball, Graham Mackleworth. Can you ALL please get your £15 to Neil Shearer by Friday 10th August at the latest.

Any queries or comments/suggestions regarding any social events please e-mail social@glamorgancenturions.co.uk.
